The idea in itself is not bad. Understanding how the system works is
important. However, the other extreme is also not good. It's better
to write code in C or assembly, rather than entering code using
a bunch of switches that can be flipped.

So consider the time spent to benefit ratio. There are a lot of 
interesting problems waiting to be solved.
