[LI] Problem with mgetty.

hi folks,
Sorry for pasting a somewhat long output. I follwed the article of PC Quest Mar 99 " Configure your Linux server for access through a modem"by Vivek Kumar and Atul Chitnis and I am facing the follwing problems: A) At home after doing 'init q' to force the system to reread the '/etc/inittab file so that it can start mgetty with the options given there. But it locks the modem and my ppp interface - there should be some way of manually stopping mgetty to free the device for dialing out to ISP. I want to know what option to use with mgetty to disable it temporarily - man & info pages were not of much help.

B) I tried these settings(given in that PC Quest article) with two computers and the results were like this- I was prompted for (I used the option of pop up a window after dialling in a Win 95 machine) username and password. After entering the info I got the shell propmt for user name "jojo" which I was using and I could browse through the directories of my linux machine but after pressing "continue" to finish the procedure of dialling in I got the message saying that "you've been disconnected form the remote computer". Below is an extract of my /var/log/mgetty.log.ttyS0 for one such transaction (just in case someone can figure out something from it).But the log extracts looks OK to me so I don't know what else to post to clearly define my problem. Waiting for some response from the list.
Extracts of my log file:
