Well lets assume it is the kernel at fault :)
Run another kernel
Either from a premade bootfloppy
or from the CD-ROM if it is bootable and your BIOS supports it
or from the DOS partition where you *should* keep a bare minimum [bare.i in
Slackware]
kernel and loadlin.exe so you don't have to rely on floppies
Just make sure root=/dev/hdXY is issued to loadlin or LILO as documented
