Hi,
     You dont seem to have configured  your monitor properly. You
should select Custom -> Non Interlaced SVGA (or lower settings) and
continue from there. About the video RAM, you could try 2MB for the 
mean-time,
and maybe later edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config files to correct it.
     BTW incorrect monitor settings may be dangerous for ur monitor.
You might stick to the 50-70 setting. And, when configuring your graphics,
select all modes (under 640x480,800x600,1024x768). After starting X,
press Ctrl + (Control and Plus) to shift between the modes. Changing
the default color depth (8 bit -> 256 colors) may need editing your
config files.
