odd happenings with my Pine/smtp

I have been using pine to send mail thru' the company's smtp server.
till yesterday, i had to enter username/passwd for each mail i sent.
But all of a sudden, i now do not have to do that.
Although others still have to.

Could someone explain this odd behavior ?
