ISDN TA - remote login - working - sort of

This is in continuation with my earlier postings regarding
problems with analog connection from an ISDN TA.

I have setup a working ppp setup with pap on a normal analog
line. I am now trying to use the analog port on the ISDN TA
that DoT supplies with. I can hear the ring on the phone connected
to the modem but the modem simply doesn't hear it.

To try and see whether the "RING" keyword displays on the monitor,
I occupied the modem port with one shell and tried dialing out with a
different modem from a normal analog line. I didn't get "RING" word
at all on the monitor. After few rings, I typed "ATA" and immediately
the modem responded.

Does it indicate anything? Can mgetty be made to respond without "RING"
but recognise the incoming call? or is it to be dealth with the ISDN TA
itself? I went through the TA manual, nothing seems to be clearly
indicative there. I am amazed to find that no one has ever tried this
sort of setup? Or is it that people have tried and succeeded but not in
the list?!! I am struggling....
