CHIP CDs and KDE

I don't want to beat up on CHIP. They have done a wonderful job in providing
RH 6.0 in their CD1. It installs well. However, there are a few gripes I
have.

The CD has KDE 1.1 prerelease version. If you have upgraded to KDE 1.1
from PCQ, you are out of luck. When you upgrade from RH 5.2 to 6.0,
KDE will not work under Gnome. You have to uninstall KDE 1.1 first.

Most irritatingly, the second of CHIP's CDs is full of outdated software
(relatively speaking). Many RPMs in CD2 are earlier versions of the
programs already installed by RH 6.0. For e.g.,

CD2 Already installed
kaffe-0.92.1 1.0.b4-2
ImageMagick-4.1.4-1 4.2.2-4
    and 4.0.7-1
ee-0.3-0, 0.3.5-3 0.3.8-7
    and 3.8.5
freetype-1.1-5 1.2-6
gimp-0.99.15-2 1.0.4-3
gqview-0.5.1-1 0.6.0-3
    and 0.6.0-1
fetchmail-4.7.3-1 5.0.0-1
esound-0.2.8-1 0.2.12-4
gnotepad+-1.0.8-1 1.1.3-2
    and 1.1.1-1

These are a few examples only. In addition, CD 2 has RH5.2 versions of
StarOffice 5.0 and KDE 1.1 as discussed earlier in the list. All in all,
CD2 is a shoddy piece of work.

I hope CHIP does somewhat better the next time around. I also hope PCQ
does something special for us soon.

One query: How much does KDE 1.1 differ from 1.1 prerelease.

Thank you for your patience.

Narayana
