486 with a large HDD

Hi all,
I am having a problem with a 486 DX2 @66 machine. This machine got itself a
new HDD Seagate with 4.3 GB HDD and I am attempting to install Linux on this
machine to act as a firewall. DOS fdisk does not see more than 504 MB of the
HDD. So I used the Disk Manager that came with teh HDD to create two
partitions.
In addition while chosing a server install the machine fails to mount after
trying the various partitions. I had set the BIOS settings to both LBA and
normal but to no avail. Does someone have a clue with this type of install.

Thanks
