Well, suppose you leave all services turned on by default, and configured up
and running as a daemon then it is easy for you (nothing has to be configured).

On the other hand, it leaves lots more ports open, and unprotected, so that if
you are on a cablemodem / dsl / leased line etc it becomes far easier to break
in.

Permissions are also less restrictive to provide greater user-friendliness.  As
I recall, you use mandrake right?  Try the installation "security options" from
"crackers welcome" to "paranoid".  You will see the difference in usablity drop
as you increase security levels.
