Hmm, lets see.

1) The point release you need to install is here
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/linux/linuxq3apoint-1.29f-beta1.x86.
run

get that.

2) Now copy the .pak files in your /mnt/cdrom/QUAKE3/baseq3 to
/usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3
Copy the config file too.

3) Tighten your seatbelt.

4) $/usr/local/games/quake3/quake3

5) Frag.
