i've been running linux on that card even when i did not know much byte
about it.

try using red hat 6.2's Xconfigurator
take a generic monitor there's an option svga with 800x600 at 56 Hz, it
works just fine
give 50-90 for the refresh rate
take no clockchip setting for the next
then don't probe for the bit depth, select manual
then select 1mb as the vram, EVEN IF YOU HAVE MORE
in the next step select 800x600 in 16 bit depth (I don't select anything
else)
now ok the starting of X and you shud have the confirmatory screen.

if you wished life be a lot easier, in just every aspect of linux you could
think of, PLEASE TRY MANDRAKE IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO.
its just ideal for linux advocay to the [crazy]windoze-crazy
with mandrake you can expect your younger sibling to be installing linux for
you.

if still things do not work out, don't hesitate to mail me
i have just the same configuration
