If you are planning to run the Apache web server you actually don't need a
kernel recompile. With newer development kernels there is an EXPERIMENTAL
kernel level web server. This is there purely for experimentation. This
kernel level http server does not do stuff like access control, server side
includes and CGI scripts. So I would not recommend it for a production
environment.
