[LI] maximum number of user process

I am having the default installation of RH 6.1
is there any way to find out that
1)how many processes can the there for the user maximum.
2)can that be changed without building the kernel ?
3)which way the upper limit can be put on the number of process the user
is owning.
4) Can the process be restricted in terms of the memory size on the
process.

right now i have only this questions
will come up with more   ;-)
