[LI] Scanners & Linux

Hello,
   I'm planning to purchase a scanner. Microtek slimscan c6 seems to be
the best choice, considering a limited budget. Can scanners be used from
linux? What software is available? Which scanner has been know to work
with linux? I'll be using my parallel port for the scanner. Is there any
changes that would be neccessary to be made while loading the parport
module?

   I know this is off-topic/linux, but how does one rig up two lpt ports
in a single PC.
