[LI] hdd problem?

hi,
a friend of mine got a new 8.4 GB HDD and has RHlinux 6.1 installed,
this error message crops up intermittently, esp, when "sync"ing the disk:

hda: status time out: status = 0xd0 {Busy}
hda: no DRQ after issuing WRITE
ide0: reset: success

what could be the problem?
