Hi iam not a computer expert but i am submitting what i know I may be
wrong at one or other point.

Terminal is simple. after conecting to server the node will bring a
terminal. one has to manually keyin login and passwd and possibly ppp
to bring computer in ppp connect mode.
Script is a language where one gives command in a sequence ie. login,
passwd et and from there computer takes thae data and conection is mostly
automatic.

PAP and CHAP or authintication modes.
PAP is poorest. one can use PAP in linux in two ways i.e. PAP alone. in
this case any user having entry in /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file can connect
to server. When PAP is used along with 'login' in setup those user having
entry in /etc/passwd file can also connect to the server. This is more
secure that using pap alone

CHAP is most powerfeul authintication available and paswdrd etc. are kept
in /etc/ppp/chap.secrets file. This is similar to pap but more secure.
