Re: [LI] Linux India and Debian

Boy am I glad I did not have the time to catch up with the LI list for most
of the weekend and today. I have given enough time for various opinions to
be expressed. I am not going to repeat any of the points that have
already been expressed.

My personal opinion [see below for why my opinion might not be valid] is
that such a list is not needed. LI is about Linux in India. Linux in any
of its forms (Caldera, Debian, RedHat, Slackware, SuSE, <pick your choice>
[in alphabetical order;-]).

LI is not a RH-specific list. For Bob's sake the list runs on a Debian
box! There are two registered Debian developers on this list (Manoj and
myself). There are numerous Debian users who post to this list.

<Contradictions>
In the end I really have no control over you starting such a list. You
have the right to. And maybe this fragmentation is inevitable. A quick wc
on the subscriber list of LI and LID tells me that there are about 800
users in both the lists put together. LI averages about 100+ mails every
day. Such a big community has to undergo a split at some point. In fact,
such a split has already happened. Some of the old timers now only
subscribe to their regional ILUG mailing list because they don't have the
time to keep up with the volume of LI.

All I can say is that I probably won't have the time to join such a list.
