Do not use the probe option for X , assuming that you are using Xconfigutor.
I have a 3dlabs permedia2 with 4 Mb ram and it works like a dream. Even the
Framebuffer driver support in the Kernel works, even though the code is
labelled experimental. If you need it , I can Send you my Xf86config file by
private mail. I run it at 1024X768x16bit color, at 67hz.
