I wouldn't bank on it. RedHat Linux 5.2 didn't have KDE included, but
everyone and his uncle installed it anyway (either downloaded or installed
from one of our CDs). This resulted KDE going to /opt/kde (as God hath
ordained).

Some joker at RedHat took the File Syste,m Standards too literally and
this resulted in KDE binaries going into /usr/bin, config files in
/usr/share, etc. starting RHL 6.0.

This was what did some fairly...uh...unspeakable things to my programs
when I shared /home.
