Re: [LI] SiS6215 Configuration using PCQ NOV. CD

Hello,

I am not aware of the new SiS cards nor regarding Linux 6 (The latter
because my copy of PCQ is still to reach me!?). But I did have problems
with Sis 6215c with RH 5 and I had to do a bit of research. Finally I got
it right. I had posted this solution earlier to PCQ, but for some reason it
did not get published, and i'd posted it on the list also. Here is what you
do:

1. Run the Xconfigurator from the setup menu. Be sure your /etc/inittab has
the system starting default as 3 and not 5.

2. Let the probe be done, including for for the c

3. Then manually edit the '/usr/X11R6/libX11/XF86Config' file as follows:

Section "Device"
    Identifier "yourId"
    VendorName "yourVendor"
    BoardName "yourBoard"
    Chipset "sis86c205"
EndSection

4. I have found that the video RAM is also not correctly indicated by the
configurator. This can also be edited to the correct value, which is to be
given as 1024 or 2048 etc.

5. Then startx and voila you should have the GUI going.

Thats it.

Enjoy.

Praveen.

ps THE SOLUTION IS NOT ENTIRELY MINE, ITS ORIGINALLY THANKS TO Xavier Ducoin
<x.ducoin@xxxxxxxxxx> WHO WAS ON THE SiS TEAM I'M GIVEN TO UNDERSTAND.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS STILL.

Please reply at cmecc@xxxxxxxx with attn Praveen in the subject field.
