Hello,
I am interested in joining the LUG at Bombay. Please specify how I may do
so.
My brief introduction is :

Name : A. M. Morawala
Age : 42 years
Profession : Electronics Engineer working with Nelco Ltd., Bombay as
Engineering Manager for SCADA systems
Certification: M.C.S.E.(July 1999)
E-mail address : a_morawala@xxxxxxxxxxx

I have a 486, 20MB RAM, 1 GB IDE, 16x DCROM, mono VGA at home. I have
installed Linux from CHIP Special issue CDROM (RedHat 6.0). The installation
went through OK. I have partitioned my HDD into 500MB for Windows 95 & 530
MB for Linux, when I loaded LILO, I get error message `LI'. I think this is
due to the Linux limitation of not having the boot record within the 1024
cylinder boundary. I can load Linux using a boot floppy. Gnome is not
loading, I get the error stating that the icons are not loaded and I need to
check the installation.

I am not a computer expert nor a progammer, but I do understand networking
and related systems. I plan to purchase a PC in Dec 99. I would like to know
whether I can network my 2 PCs in a simple manner.

I have used Linux in a very haphazard manner since we use Win95 more often.
My idea of joining a body such as the LUG stems from the following:
- I have made it my priority to learn Linux even though we do not use it in
the office. I need a structured learning system or guidance which LUG may be
able to provide.
- I need to know what I can do at home & work using a powerful OS like
Linux. I have many articles that specify what Linux can do in the office,
but none telling me what it can do at home.
- How do I play around with Linux, e.g., rebuild kernels, do programming in
C/C++, work with the many desktops etc., but in a proper manner.
- I need to keep myself abreast of new developements in Linux & its
applications.

Thanks,
A. M. Morawala.
