Hi,
U R right. "mtv" is a nagware.  But U can use the accompanying program "mtvp".
Infact "mtv" is just a front-end for mtvp.

$mtvp vcd:1

Starts playing first track of the video cd. U can replace 1 with the track no.
of ur choice.
