RE: [LI] SB Live_It worked!

Dear Anand,

All sound cards have a small amplifier on board that outputs in the
range of ~10 watts. The reason for putting this amount of power on the card
is to allow for the use of unpowered speakers.

The reason for only this much power on the sound card is simple :
any more power and the heavy duty transistors used will get very hot and
need heat sinks ( you must have seen that high power amplifiers have large
transistors that need heat sinks). Also, the power consumption will go up
beyond the PCI bus's capability to deliver. Also, you will need bigger fans
in the comp chassis to cool the whole setup. Also ... I hope you get the
picture.

So, in short : You need an external amplifier to get your Sony
speakers keping the neighbours awake everytime you play Quake ;-)

Connect the external amp's aux in to the line out connector on the
sound card and enjoy.
