[LI] SO5.1 and date problem

Dear All,

(Config is : RH6.0, X server 3.3. from xfree86.org)

1) I installed SO5.1 as su, when i execute it as a normal user, the prompt
just comes back. No error message. SO only executes as su.

2) Within x-server, several commands dont seem to have an effect. I change
the date, but when I come out of X, it's back to the old one ("date --set
14:00"). I ran a "chmod +r /etc/hosts" in x (from Terminal) and when i came
out, the operation had undone itself !

This sounds silly, but is there a fundamental difference between the
"Terminal" in X, and the dollar prompt on the normal CUI screen ?

3) The date itself. No matter where I change the date, when i reboot, the
old date is in effect. How do i correct the date time. (it says IST but is
4-6 hours ahead). (Do enlighten me on this, but shouldnt the date time in
Windows and Linux partitions be the same ?)

Thanks
RK
