Hi,
SCO uses an encryption scheme totally different from that of Linux.
It is based on World War technology (same as those used on the Enigma
devices present on the German U-Boats, if I remember right).
Linux uses a bit newer technology called DES (Data Encryption Standard).
Both
SCO and Linux support shadow passowrds (the encrypted passwords lie
in /etc/shadow). So copying /etc/shadow from one to another wont do
much good. If you really want to move between them you need a program
that decrypts the SCO passwd and encrypts it into DES format. Decrypting SCO
passwds are way too tough (Based on some kind of rotor, changes part of key
every 24 hours and stuff like that).
Put in a simpler way, bad luck!! Time for new passwords...
