Help in gatewaying

hi ppl

i installed redhat 6.0 from CHIP CD. { I am not blaming chip cd .. no flames
pls.)

Now everything is working fine .. i can access the net thru proxy and i can
do email masq. and forwarding etc. Web server is also running fine,

The only thing is internet is not accessible from any of the nodes on lan.
i.e. if I ping to 202.54.1.30 from a node on my lan I get following message
:

Request Time Out.

But at the same instance if I do the same from linux server, it says usual
success message.

Thus due to this i am not able to run various s/w on nodes which use the
gateway rather then proxy server squid for connecting to net.

Please tell me how do i enable the gatewaying on my linux server.

************ Note : If I disconnect from net .. i.e. switch of the linux
server  modem , then the nodes give the message network unreachable.

Thus I think nodes are ware of the fact that there is gateway and now it is
not connected to net ...but then how to sove timed out problem.
