Hi,
I think you were trying to login as root through telnet. The
terminal which you would have got would be /dev/ttyp0 (assuming you
were the first to telnet in). /dev/ttyp0 is not a secure terminal.
If you want to login as root from remote sites, you should add
/dev/ttyp0 to /etc/securetty. With this entry, there can be a max. of
one remote telnet as root. For more than 1 remote root logins, you
can put that many entries in your /etc/securetty(ie. /dev/ttyp0,
/dev/ttyp1,....).
