system is  not hanging, its  not able to  create a display with settings
which u have given ,
Try pressing ctrl+alt+backspace it returns to prompt. R u sure u have
selected correct display card,memory,monitor etc during installation??, why
dont u try XF86Setup, its better than Xconfig
