Linux has gone this stage also now.
If you install "Turbo Linux", you just don't need to do anything regarding
configuration
of your system (except network parameters).  Everything it detects and
installs it.
The gui for this linux is similar to a Sun Solaris (Your loving OS)/HP
Workstation.
