The auth.log file did not tell anything. Modifying the exim.conf file
from 
      local_domains = 
to
      local_domains = haralu.xrdlab.mysore:localhost
solved the problem.

BTW, Manoj, I had sent you the script of some kernel compiling
problems. I did not see any reply to that. Did you find anything wrong
with the compilation? Kindly let me know.
