EHLO!

Eqascii is an ascii equation renderer. That means, it renders
equations, given in a form similar to latex to ascii representation.
I hope that this program can be (or rather will be in the future)
useful i.e. in porting scientific documents to web without converting
complex equations to images, or simply if one needs to represent some
equation on a newsgroup :).

To make it more clear how does it work, here's an example:

[pborys@p-soft eqascii]$ ./eqascii
'\prod_{i=1}^{\infty}\sqrt{e^{b+c}-\frac{\left[a+\frac{a+b^{3}}{4a-3c}\r
ight]}{a_1-\sqrt{2}}}+ \left|\begin{array} \frac{8}{2} & 1 & 3 \\ 2 & 3
& \left|\begin{array} 1 & 2 \\ 3 & 4 \end{array}\right| \\ 3
& \sqrt{5} & 12 \end{array}\right|'
         ________________________ | |
        | [ 3 ] | 8 |
        | [ a + b ] | - 1 3 |
        | [a + -------] | 2 |

___ oo | b + c [ 4a - 3c] | |
| | |e - --------------- + | | 1 2 | |
| | i=1 | _ | 2 3 | | |
        | a - \|2 | | 3 4 | |

       \| 1 | |
                                     | 3 _ 12 |
                                     | \|5 |

[pborys@p-soft eqascii]$

The program can be downloaded from
http://dione.ids.pl/~pborys/software/linux/eqascii-0.3.0.tar.gz
(or simply
http://dione.ids.pl/~pborys/software/linux/
in case the filename would change)

The program is very small for now (30K of code, compressed to 8K), but
it's usability is IMO good enough to announce ;)

M station News for April 01
- -------------------------------

Hi,

newly up on the site is ...

Games Music - we ask two games music composers what they do
and and how they got going (amongst other things).

Timewaster Warning! We have a flash thingy for playing with some
loops. (1/2 a Meg)

Electro Accoustic Issues - Miriam Rainsford recently helped adjudicate
a contest. The pieces that were entered prompted her to question
what it's all about anyway.

Developer Chat - Paul Davis is one of the more prolific Linux Audio
programmers. We talk to him about his various apps and what's going
on with them.

On the music front we now have headlines updated through the week -
again!
(which you can get in XML format if you like) as well as our normal
weekly stuff. This week we have an interview with Front242. The new
through-the-week stories mostly come from original sources so they're
as timely
as you can get.

Cheers
John

Subject: Implementation of RFC 1149: IP over avian carriers.
Date: Fri, 6 Apr 2001 19:34:49 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

11 years ago, april 1st 1990, an important RFC was written, RFC 1149: IP over
avian carriers. To this day, as far as we know, no person has implemented this
RFC, yet it has been mentioned in numerous classes and networking courses.
That
time has come to an end, and RFC 1149 will finally get its first
implementation, brought to you by Bergen Linux User Group and Vesta
Pigeon Racing Club.

The CPIP WG was founded march 6th 2001, as a joint project between the two
mentioned groups. Since then, members of both clubs have been busy
with planning, experimentation and implementation. We're now so far into the
project that we feel confident that the technology is ready, and the
implementation will be finished in time.

The tentative date for the demonstration of the first implementation and the
transportation of the first packets over live pigeons is set to april 28th.
The place will be somewhere in Bergen, but due to risk of interference in the
transmission, the actual sites will not be announced, at least not yet.

The WGs project web page is http://www.blug.linux.no/rfc1149/ - and on this
page, we'll put up minutes, plans, implementation details and in due time, a
report from the project.

Vegard Engen
Representant for the CPIP WG
