Not difficult at all. Often enough it is just making sure that the HD 
is correctly plugged in that is tougher.

Install new HD physically. 
Let Bios detect it.
su -
fdisk /dev/hdx
mkfs /dev/hdx[y]
mkdir /mountpoint[y]
vi /etc/fstab
Add required lines
mount -aF
^D
