Bang!Linux 2001 March 05-07 a rip off ?

yep....even with 30% off it's too costly affair for a linux conference,
the least wrox could do is cut some slack to linux developers atleast
and offer a 60% discount for dev people active on this list. The mighty
RedHat before their IPO had offered Stocks to all it's developers in
it's "developers reward program" including me then but I didn't have
$1.5K in USD to buy it then or I could have make some $$$ now to pay
happily for the wrox conference :-)

I think the wrox might be trying to forcible trying to sell their books
down throats of all the thousands of people attending the conference(as
free books is a part of the kit) eventhough most people attending are
already pro devlopers/admins who could write books instead of reading
them :-).

if the main criteria is to keep the noise(student/newbies) down then
they could just NOT advertise in TimesOfIndia and TheHindu and just make
a announcement on LI/LIG lists so only the people who are really active
on Linux get to know it and attend it. or simply like RH just make a
selective invitee list of developers active on LIG/LI by looking at
stats of number of posts(atleast 5 or something) and mail a personal
code by which they can get 60% off.

sad but true Linux needs masses to succeed and this is just not the way
to do it.
