Try out this 

edit ur /etc/lilo.conf file
change boot=/dev/hda7 to boot=/dev/hda  (MBR)
also add option to boot other OS (win)
save and exit. now run lilo
this will install lilo in ur mbr so that u can boot lilo.

sample lilo.conf file (vmlinuz version cud b diff. chk ur's)

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
message=/boot/message
linear
default=linux


image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.16-22
label=linux
read-only
root=/dev/hda7


other=/dev/hda1
	label=window
