Err, doesn't anyone remember the days when OS/2 was called MS-OS/2 and

Bill Gates was consultant to IBM for the PC project. Gates was not
stupid, he could see that a well accepted PC with his operating system
tied to it would be good business for his then fledgling company.
Please do not call IBM benevolent. They were as hated then as Microsoft
is today.
