booting into a fresh installation & kernel Panic

Hi,

I installed a fresh copy of Linux beyond 1024 cylinders successfully and am
able to boot into Linux a few times through Loadlin.

But strangely after a few boots I get the message Kernel Panic cannot load
file system.....

The system is always shut down properly.

Any clues ?
