If XF86Setup is installed ('dpkg --list xf86setup' will tell you if it is),
then run /usr/bin/X11/XF86Setup for a semi graphical setup. I had problems
with the mouse when doing so. Removing gpm ('dpkg --remove gpm') solved
the problem.

Run 'modconf' (without the quotes) as root and go into the net sub-section
and try to install the module for 3c59x. The source code for this driver
says the following:

This driver is for the 3Com "Vortex" and "Boomerang" series ethercards.
Members of the series include Fast EtherLink 3c590/3c592/3c595/3c597
and the EtherLink XL 3c900 and 3c905 cards.

       they're cutting off our service!
Marge: Oh, lord, now what are we going to do? Just let the trash pile up?
Homer: Hey, I'd rather live in a dump than in a world run by snooty garbage
       men.
