gnu and linux

hi all,

to me, gnu/linux is just an attempt to get additional exposure for gnu by
riding the linux bandwagon. gnu does not need it; gnu has been around
quite longer, but it took a linus t. to deliver a system. though many good
tools (by many accounts, some of the tools are not just good, they are the
best) have come out of gnu, these all needed somebody else's os to run on.
the gnu kernel never took off (there are other gnu projects that also did
not take off, or did not get very far). what linux has done is to provide
that key missing piece so that one can have a whole open sourced system.
perhaps, the term gnu/linux is an acknowledgement of the fact that the two
complement each other so as to provide a whole workable system.
