Apologies for this long mail - It grown a bit too long i am not able to
really cutdown on it...

I have installed the glibc version from ftp.xfree86.org and used the tar.gz
binaries and followed instructions from the release notes to upgrade my
xfree86 version. i am not sure the version is glibc 2.1 or 2.0.7 - would
like to know.

there are a few difference in the number in the brackets - (i guess they are
memory locations - are they?) I am not able to proceed any further... a
couple of them from your list are missing or couple of extra are listed in
my machine. Probably you can help me now with what i should do next.

the postinst.sh script that i downloaded with 3.3.5 ran ldconfig and i
used ldconfig twice.

Thanks for your advice - i am planning to stick around for some time.
Just in case you need to know - my card is a trident 3d image 9750 agp 4Mb
card.
