If you are very good at C, try Advanced Programming in the Linux
Environment by Richard Stevens. This should get you started in writing
proper *nix programming. As for kernel hacking is concerned, go to
khg.redhat.com and get yourself a copy of the kernel hackers guide. It
hepls in getting you started in the basics of the Linux kernel.
