[LI] Char-major-108

Previously I used to get the message:

modprobe: con't locate module char-major-108.

This went away when I put alias char-major-108 ppp-generic in conf.modules.

Now since today mornig I am getting the same message: can't locate
char-major-108.

What can be the problem, how do I solve it ?
/etc/conf.modules stiil has th e alias line as before.
