Does fsck take abnormally long time to read the disk ? Does the light
stay on for long intervals of time ? If so, there is a possibility that
your hdd has developed a few bad tracks or flakey tracks.. wwhich IS
DANGEROUS. If you have no other OS installed and are willing to do a
Linux renistallation, I would suggest you to go thru a Low Level format
along with a scan for Bad tracks from CMOS. Award Bios-es have this
facility, at least the post 91 stuff .. I am not sure whether your Bios
will support this.
