Startx, Gnome-control-center, sound, tick 'start sound-server at
startup',
restart X
Or reboot machine if that does not work.
Try playing CDs.
If still does not work, then come back. We will guide you.

Use XF86Setup.
Gives you a very concise /etc/X11/XF86Config file which you can happily
tweak.
But you may not need to get down to tweaking.
use this and choose card > detailed setup > read readme file
Gives you insight into what is happening there and why.

Usually following readme file works.

binand@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx uses this card. He will guide you if you
fail
after trying all this.
