LILO keeps the boot loader image it replaces. So, when you had a DOS
image, installed LILO, and want to uninstall it, a simple lilo -u should do
the trick. But if the last image kept by LILO has been changed by many
more runs of lilo, the only way that remains is fdisk /mbr, or restore using
some virus scanner.

BTW, do a man lilo, and man fdisk (fdisk also has a provision
of writing a DOS image in MBR, though I haven't tried that out).
