Re: [LI] RH 6.1, display resolution problem and many others.

Hi Dharmesh,

1. You must have the three floppies which comes for WINNT installation.
Boot from those floppies, select the option to repair an existing WINNT,
and repair only the boot sector (you will find three check boxes from
which only one has to be selected). This should reinstall the NT boot
loader in the MBR.

2. I don't know about the cryptic error you are getting. This is most
probably because you had the NT boot loader earlier. I guess it is
the same problem of LILO not finding the root directory of LInux.
Check the HOWTOs for Linux+WINNT. BTW, you had WINNT on
a FAT System ?

3. About changing the display, XF86Config should help you, but
select 800x600 as the first option. Else if are more adventurous
open /etc/X11/XF86Config, search for the SVGA server options,
where you will find the mode set to 1024x760 for your display.
Change that to 800x600, and restart X. That should do the trick.

Subject: [LI] RH 6.1, display resolution problem and many others.

Hi there folks,

This is my first installation of RH 6.1 (PCQ) on my home PC (actually it's
my first month on linux).
- ------ I already had win95 and winnt on the PC. So when i installed RH
6.1,
it made a dual booting with win95 and the option to select winnt disappeared
(i mean the windows NT boot loader has been wiped out and LILo has taken
over). Any ideas as to how to get my option to boot winnt once again,
keepin the existing installation of RH 6.1 and 95 intact?
