It depends on your perspective. If I were to be an average 
newbie on the list trying to find out how to get my video
card to work, I probably won't be interested in that post.

As you said, it was an interesting read, probably useful
for the sysadmins and the security minded. And as long as
there is enough support from people who need such info and
as long as there is no significant pushback from the people
who're not intrested, it should be fine.
