[LI] Linux parport devices

hi everybody,
	I am trying to configure a printer on PCQ RHL 5.2 kernel version
2.2.10. I compiled the kernel with the support of parallel printer
 and that of parport devices. Now while booting it get the
message 
request_module[parport_lowlevel]: Root fs not mounted
lp: driver loaded but no devices found
and the printer does not work.
/proc/devices does not show lp device and /proc/parport directory is 
empty.
