[LI] permission for ipup

I have ip-up and ip-down files in /etc/ppp directory with owner root and
group daemon. group permission for read and execute. but still ip-up is
not executed. i getthe following msg. 
GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 authentication
rejected.
sh: /etc/ppp/ip-up: Permission denied

sh: /etc/ppp/ip-down: Permission denied
 Solutions welcome.
