[Linux-India] Re : No Swap! No RAM!

Hi,
Detecting RAM above 64MB can often be a problem. You have to
pass your total memory as a kernel parameter if you have any problems.
You do this by giving "mem=128M" as an extra option at your LILO
prompt ie. Suppose you type "linux" at your LILO boot prompt, then
you give the extra parameter by a "linux mem=128M". Note that it is
not "128MB". I hope you get a LILO prompt when you boot into your hard-disk
(you neednt boot from a floppy to get a LILO prompt). If this works, you
could make the parameter given by default by editing your /etc/lilo.conf. Do
a "man lilo.conf". Hint: Check out the "append" option in the manual page.
You say you have a 40MB swap partition. Linux wont know about it until
you tell it so. Make an entry in your /etc/fstab file. And have you done an
"mkswap" on that partition??

A friend of mine suggests that disabling the memory hole (BIOS settings)
might help Linux see your 128MB better.
