My Linux pc is Slow

Hi,

I am  new to linux , I am using my pc (With RHL 6.0-2.2.5)  as a work
station
without n/w connection. I wonder why it boots up slowly, X comes slowly,
apps
runs slowly, its not fast as compared to W95 in spite of the following
configuration,
pentium 233 MMX, 512kb cache, 64mb sdram,
2mb gram, 70mb swp,1gb linux native
How can i tune my pc for optimal performance, is there any howto ?or URL
